Bad Weekend for 135   PDF  Print  E-mail

One of the things that really hurts us air charter maniacs collectively is the relative frequency and drama of our crashes. This weekend was no exception.

The fact is, dear charter comrade, is that we crash too much. This weekend we lost a NASCAR family and an ambulance. The NTSB data reflects one startling fact that the media will continue to persecute us about until we fix the problem - per 100,000 hours of flight time we crash more.

Now we know the obvious stuff, like "we have no money" for training etc. and "we fly to different places..all the time" and worst of all "at funny times of the day / night." But alas, not an acceptable excuse to sobbing survivors.

At RSVPair, we have Feng Shui'd the office, hung the appropriate crystals, we even face Mecca, the Himalayas and Jerusalem on some days and through the appropriate object over our left (er right?..) shoulder and invoke the almighty to make all take offs, enroutes and approaches go well & to bring good luck to our airmen. (Ok.. airpeople.) But the fact is "raising the bar" of safety within the Part 135 community at large is very, very, very important for the evolution of this fledgling hobby of an industry we call air charter.
