The first Pratt powered Eclipse rolled out recently, lifting the spirits of Eclipse air charter enthusiasts. Lots of testing, bending and cycles will now ensue.

This AvWeb piece summarizes the current stage of development. The interesting part about the Eclipse and Pratt & Whitney Canada story may not actually be the new engine for the Eclipse, but rather the fact that the new turbine core is just as viable as a core replacement for Pratt's flagship product, the PT-6.

The core that powers current PT-6, according to some, has seen no major design change in a long time and the Eclipse relationship and order may, ironically, breath new life into the many turboprop applications that Pratt stands to benefit from.

Eclipse order breathes new life into aging turboprops? You heard it here first!
