This isn't exactly breaking news anymore for us Canadian air charter zealots, but the story of Canada's now notorious discount carrier going bust has opened up the air taxi "discussion" in Montreal, Toronto, Boston, New York and beyond. The collapse of a discounter, that exerted strong downward pricing pressure on the rest of Canadian scheduled air fares, has led to (gasp!) the remaining air carriers charging more. While this is simply a "fact of life" for us air charter worker bees who ride in coach at the lowest possible fare, upper echelon business and leisure travelers in Canada now have good reason to consider air charter when moving small groups (3 to 8) short distances for a short period of time (day meeting or overnight.) In fact, when the number of passengers gets high enough, it can even be less expensive, never mind the convenience, privacy and flexibility that your own air charter / air taxi brings. This Google News page offers a myriad of stories, including how the ad agency got stiffed, and what happens when bad business plans, management and decision making all get together for a big party with other people's money. This post was made by Adam Webster who would much rather play squash and rant on his blog than hear of more airline bankruptcies. |
