SkyTaxi NE Takes Wing: Air Taxi For the Rest of Us   PDF  Print  E-mail

While many eyeballs are cast at new technology this is yet another story of people tackling the problem of business with some welcome sobriety that is highly appreciated by those of us in the sober air charter business paradigm. While that may sound a bit blasphemic to blurt out, the reality is that air charter mavens everywhere know that air charter is a tough business and that is why most of us duck capital carrying costs by operating managed aircraft. So,... How will the new start ups survive with the heavy capital carrying costs of brand new aircraft, possible service bulletin mahem (that typically accompanies new models) and cabins that are small compared with the cabin class twins of the past?

Our answer is simple, "Good bloody question." That is why we pay close attention to folks like Ray Morrow, Jim Pusateri and Frank Gaetano, when there is news about them in the mainstream media. SkyTaxi is a gutsy start up, doing what the air taxi behemoths claim to be able to do in the future, except.... they are doing it today. The interesting part is that they are proving the model first, with Navajo Chieftains, which shows that these guys are sober indeed. The biggest hindrance to any aviation endeavor are the regulations and capital costs, which both come with very understandable reasons. Aircraft need to be safe and they are expensive to buy.

But if you can tweak any of those parameters in your favor (without compromising the integrity of your operation) any business person knows that you should. Enter the Navajo: With lower capital carrying costs the SkyTaxi folks are proving something very smart - why stress if you don't have to, especially on day one with aircraft number one. Once utilization crests a certain amount, you can bet SkyTaxi will move on to Caravans and possibly one day VLJ's. But for now, it will simply be whatever works, is legal and is safe.

This story is the introduction to their local marketplace.
