When the word freedom is being used by security freaks it leaves the realm of the logical use and becomes much more ironic. When you hear statements like "We need to take away your airport for the sake of freedom" you know that the nitwit shutting down your airspace probably doesn't fully grasp the principles of freedom. George Orwell, where are you when air taxi folks need you? The DCA racket clearly shows that lowly small businesses will have a hard road to fight against the deeply paranoid Secret Service who like to impose flight restrictions with the same casual flair that the rest of us do our laundry. This story shows how two steps forward can usually yeild one step back, especially when dealing with a bureaucracy that is normally lauded for its proactive, quick thinking and highly motivated style. The best question to ask yourself might be this - what would the Israeli's do? With the constant threat of terrorism (for much longer than the US) the Israeli's have been able to operate their airlines and general aviation worlds with relative harmony. This post was made by Adam Webster who is a big fan of opening up airports that have been needlessly closed for too long. |
