The larger aircraft such as the Airbus A380 et al, are clearly not in the domain of the Part 135 air charter world. Nonetheless, some of our larger colleagues operate Boeings for presidential campaigns and sports teams under the monicker of charter, so this big Boeing news is worthy of some presence here, if only because the people in our lives (who refer to us as airplane people) will always ask us about any airplane as if we knew it intimately. After all, we are air charter people and, consequently, we have answers to everything. This news from New Tech Spy is interesting in that it has gone places that we really thought even Airbus should not be going. With the success of the 787 design, concept and sales, one would seriously question why now the big move to go in the big (supersize) direction. One can only assume that the american diet, fast food, and growing waist lines are the reason for this behemoth. Ok, so that's totally untrue, but it was a fun observation to make anyway. The reality, as far as we can tell, is that this thing is really cool and different. Stealth and flying wing design is finally going to make it into the civilian world and this means we can be shooting pool while going to Johannesburg. After my seventh beer, somewhere over Chad between Frankfurt and Johannesburg, I can thank Boeing for the comfort, pool table and steam that I'll need to get through those terrible commutes. This post was made by Adam Webster who does not like sitting for more than an hour, let alone 11 or 22, so these kind of airplanes are welcome, no matter how strong the runways have to be. |
