Athens/Ben Epps Airport was opened in 1917, it was named after the owner of the airport who also happened to be the first aviator in the state of Georgia. The airport is county-owned public use airport located near the business district of Athens, Georgia.

The airport is used for general aviation and is one of the busiest in the state.
