San Francisco InternationalSan Francisco, CA USA (KSFO / SFO)The San Francisco (KSFO) airport was first opened on May 7, 1927 on 150 acres of cow pasture. Starting in 1935, Pan American World Airways used the facility as the terminal for its "China Clipper" flying boat service across the Pacific Ocean. Domestic flights did not begin en masse until World War II, when Oakland International Airport was taken over by the military and its passenger flights were moved to San Francisco. It is believed that SFO's name is derived from the fact that it once served traffic for both San Franciso (SFO) and Oakland (SFO).Bridgeford Flying Service is one of the oldest continuous operation air charter companies in the US and shares San Francisco's legacy status in the aviation community. Since 1946 Bridgeford has been building a business which provides FBO, maintenance, flight training and air charter services to the Bay Area from its home base of Napa Valley (KAPC).
